I can hazard a guess that you have at least one box of baking soda in your home at this moment. I have a few myself. Most people use baking soda to absorb odors in different parts of the home and workplace. What they may not know is cleaning with baking soda is a very efficient and effective way to get things done.
What is baking soda?
Baking soda is 100 percent sodium bicarbonate. Baking soda is used in baking applications because it makes bubbles, giving off carbon dioxide, which makes the dough rise. Anecdotal information talks about many civilizations using baking soda to make bread and other similar goods.
The Egyptians used baking soda as a soap application. However, it was in 1846 that baking soda was commercially produced and marketed.
Cleaning With Baking Soda – Tips & Tricks
Clean your sinks with baking soda by first wetting the sink. Then sprinkle baking soda over the wet surface and scrub. Use a soft bristle brush and use some of the paste on the rim and caulking.
Spray white vinegar, via a spray bottle, on the area covered in baking soda. Wait for about 20 minutes and then wash off the sink for a sparkling shine. As a precaution, wear sunglasses to save your eyes from the glare of shiny clean stainless steel.
You can clean the drain by pouring half a cup of baking soda down the drain. Then add a cup of white vinegar. The mixture will start foaming. While it foams, boil some water and pour down the drain. This will help to clear the drain and remove odors.
For cleaning your washroom with baking soda, mix baking soda and liquid soap in a bowl. Dilute the mixture with water. Then add pure white vinegar. Stir it to remove any lumps. Put the mixture into a spray bottle. You may have to shake the bottle well before each use.
Spray generously the area of the washroom to be cleaned and scrub with a nylon sponge. Then, simply rinse with regular water. Once again, please keep the sunglasses on to protect your eyes from the brilliant shine.
To clean carpet stains with baking soda, take a half cup of baking soda. Mix 2 tablespoons of regular table salt. Rub the stains on the carpet with the solution and let dry. After the area dries, simply vacuum. Take off sunglasses to see the result.
For whiter whites and bolder colors, add about a half cup of baking soda to your regular laundry load. Front-loading washers only need about 1/4 cup. The baking soda softens the water and increases the potency of bleach so you can save money by using less detergent and bleach.

The best part of cleaning with baking soda is that you can feel safe about using it in any part of your house or workplace to clean. It’s not harsh or toxic and to top it off its very inexpensive. This is also true of vinegar.
